This is a brief report about a recent gathering that happened in Spain last week. A few of us met, now for the third time, as a singing choir. This is a particular type of choir, weaving together voice work and singing with other practices, such as meditation.
We hadn’t been together, as a group, since before the Covid phenomena. The forced distancing highlights the learning and the invaluable richness of direct, in-presence interaction.
Through voice we connect the inner and the outer world and worlds to come. We use voice and silence to vivify, connect, transmute and explore spaces of consciousness.
Part of our work and practices are meant to disassemble old structures and build up new ones, from the inside out. It is an opus of inner alchemy by which we burn emotional patterns and mental blockages which no longer serve us, whilst opening to profound states of consciousness. We forge presence and integrity.
We gathered in a remote little village in the province of Soria. The sun was intense, the nights chilly, and fierce storms blew in, and out again. Our hostess had told me that the elemental life in Soria knows no temperance. She was right. It is part of its charm.
I have invited participants to share their experiences. Here are some of the testimonies together with images of our landscape.
The difference between singing in a connected way from the normal way is not only that, in the first instance, the sound is rounder but also the space you pass with the sound is richer, the landing is more harmonious.
It was not antidepressants that I needed. It was the Sun. In this meeting, there you were, my sun seeds.
"I have experienced that it isn’t necessary to give up what one has in order to achieve what one is lacking; both are integrated in the process of self-knowledge and transformation."
In such encounters there is a space to See and to be Seen. I can remember what I’m made of and even glimpse what I’m here for. A state of Being that would be natural if it were not for the prevailing disconnection in our ordinary lives. Often, when the world falls apart, union is said to make strength; this time I say that communion makes the future.
Between the paths,
A memory is found.
From the pierced treading,
some traces of Machado.
Soria.
They reach the starry sky,
the gaze of an incarnated Angel.
They perch on the desired encounters.
I am already in the golden fields.
Soria.
We are committed to meet again. I am confident the time and place will come.
I write these words looking out into the valley of the Lima river in Portugal, now bathed in a soft, round, September light. Last week’s waves of sound have withdrawn, leaving a fertile inner ground, and a crop of peace and silence.

Forjamos presencia e integridad.
Hemos tenido sol intenso, noches frías y tormentas feroces.
No necesitaba antidepresivos. Necesitaba soles...
Soria.
Estamos comprometidos a encontrarnos nuevamente.
